You’re Allowed To Break

What a brave face you have on there. You’re showing the world you’re tough, you don’t need anyone else, you’re okay. And darling, you may be okay. But you know what else is okay? Finally reaching your breaking point.

Because sometimes, life gets to be too much. And we have to take our masks off or put our capes in the wash and let the reality come out. Sometimes, in order to stay brave, you need to break. You need to feel the things that you’re stuffing down in the name of strength.

Scream. Cry. Throw something. Just please, don’t forget how to feel. Don’t let anything bring you to the point of no return. I know, you’re worried that once you allow yourself to feel it all, you’ll just drown in your own heartache. I know, you’re worried that once you show the world you’re broken, you fear the consequences.

“What will they think?” “How will they respond?” “How will I ever put my mask back on?” Don’t be afraid, there are people who love you, people who are aching to meet you, and people who may be able to help put your broken pieces back together again, if you let them.

See the thing is, you can’t fix anything until something breaks. Once you finally allow yourself to break, you will finally allow yourself to heal. Once you finally allow yourself to be weak, you will finally grow stronger.

You can’t learn from mistakes until you’re willing to own up to them. So, don’t be afraid to feel everything, and let yourself break.

Break so that you can rebuild yourself even stronger. Break so that you can finally validate how you’re feeling. Break so that your wounds can begin to heal. Sure there may be scars, but those scars will be stories of how you survived. When you feel yourself starting to break, don’t ice out the world. Don’t isolate yourself from the people who love you, and who are willing to help you.

I know you don’t want the world to see your vulnerability, but maybe, let just one person see it. Or maybe you let two people see it. You do not have to go through this alone. You have been strong for so long. It’s time to free yourself of that burden, even if just for a little bit.

The world won’t always seem so dark and foggy. The rain will soon clear and you’ll be able to appreciate the sun again. Your heart won’t always ache this much. But by never allowing yourself to break, you’re just prolonging the inevitable, and that will end up hurting you even more in the process. Remember, you can’t fix anything until something breaks.
